We're about 30 mins away. Their employees have been coming out periodically taking pictures and giving out water bottles.
The best part is Alan (kid with the fro) has been telling anyone thats asked us why we're waiting in line is that Abercrombie is looking for new models. None of us are exactly "model material" but alotta people have been going along with it. There'll be a video up later tonight, it's priceless! :D

The quotes in the article don't even imply the guy said AMOLED screens are better, only that there is only 3-5% less visible difference (using some of that creative math since the actual difference he states is 20%) between the AMOLED screens and Apple's new screen.
Even then it conveniently ignores the fact that AMOLED screens are completely useless outside.
In any case it's a weak and completely ineffectual attempt at muckraking.

Sounds good, I just checked my iPhone and found several Starbucks - duh :D - around Moscone center. Maybe a native San Franciscan can suggest one of them, or an alternative in any case? Veterans of similar meetings from previous years: what do you think??
I'll be wearing my original MacOS X t-shirt :)
I am not a native but know the area pretty well. I would also be wiling to take shifts in line outside the Mascone center in the morning if some people want to wake up early and then I can come and hold the line for a few hours. I don't know about you guys but I am also staying at the Marriott so that could be a place to meet (I think they have a few louges)

Instead of holding option, hold the mouse button down while you power on. That force ejects any disk.

What we really need is a Windows Keynote player downloadable for free off of Apple's website. ...Apple could probably throw one together in a day and iWork sales would skyrocket (not to mention the switching potential of the Windows users watching such a beautiful presentation on their piece of crap :D).
I don't think that would work, considering Keynote uses lots of Quartz technologies, which Windows of course doesn't have. iTunes and QuickTime are different of course because they don't rely on any Core/Quartz tech.

My 11" MBA was a bit wobbly when I first got it in December and I applied some gentle pressure on it on one side to make it even. That worked really well and it hasn't been wobbly since. The wobble was very minor, though, so it didn't really take much for it to be fixed.
Since you just bought it I'd imagine that they would exchange it without much of a hassle.

The same thing happens when I run Skype on my 13" MBA. When I use Facetime, the heat and loud fans aren't really an issue. The only other time the fans crank up for me like that is when I'm doing intensive photo or video editing. So it seems to me that Skype really is just a CPU hog. I'm not sure if there's really anything you can do about that.

Anyone else notices that iWork will only update if the apps' are in Applications/iWork 06? That's poor design / very un-Apple: why can't I put my apps where I like?
Apple even has a support doc mentioning this issue? http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301573
Why not actually correct it?!?

The Apple Learning Interchange was used for collaboration, not just publishing lesson plans. It had a members list and places for interaction so educators could connect with and work with each other. I don't see how the iTunes U can replace that. This seems like a step down.

So, do we know who or what organization put this idea forward?
it's the "North Dakota Family Alliance" whose executive director is Tom D. Freier who is;
Tom D. Freier is a North Dakota politician and public servant with the North Dakota Republican Party.... link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Freier)

Would you care to elaborate on this, and its security implications?
Also, if you modify your httpd.conf file (which *is* the best method, but rarely available in shared hosting environments), don't forget to restart Apache ;)
If the file is writable, it depends on the user who owns it. If it is writable by the user running the web server, someone might be able to write a shell script into that file. Now that it has execute privileges, it's not that far of a stretch to get it to execute.
A good rule of thumb is don't give any more permissions than are necessary. If it only needs to be readable, then there's no reason to give write or execute privileges. Many security incidents happen due to lax security. Don't be one of them.
Also, you're right on with the shared server piece. I didn't recognize that the original question was concerning a shared web server.

I've had no issues with SL like you're describing, including the applications you've mentioned. Remember that crashing issues may or may not be related to the OS... there's as good a chance of the software application in question being at fault as SL.

Bad joke. I'm tired. Night-night.
You look tired, off to bed for you.
This is the best, it's the one time of year the american mac addicts have to stay up till all hours to see the updates and I don't. No offense to you americans I'm just stoked I don't have to stay up.

Wow. I got there a few minutes before the store opened, counted at least 300 people in front of me and a few hundred more behind me. I expected a line but that was insane. There was one person left in front of me before I could get Leopard and one of the geniuses told him "Sorry, we just ran out." He was joking though. I was about to rip his eyes out of his skull and shove them up his ass so he could watch me kick it.

It's going to take a lot of effort to know the keynote has aired and not check any sites... for over 12 hours!!!
Recon it'll take that long?
The keynote is at 5pm GMT time (i live in the UK). I'd wanna know what was release before i went to bed  lol.

That's quite a huge bug. :(
Glad they fixed it, but that kind of thing should have never been allowed to exist in the firstplace.
Why do you think that's such a huge bug? Do you know the account name on my computer? I don't know yours, either. Not only that, you would have to share your computer's files (something you have to do yourself) then open port 548 for the world to see through your router.
