No opinion on Bluetooth mice. Other than wishing like everyone else that Apple would make their new one in bluetooth.
I've heard lots of good things on this board about Crucial so you might want to check their ram out.
Lastly, I edit video on a 15" PB and have had no problems with heat. But I do recommend the ilap. It's a great stand and I've bought two of them to use with both my powerbooks. http://www.raindesigninc.com/ilap.html
Cheers!

Thank you for your replies. Could someone point me in the right direction on how to jailbreak 4.2.1?

Thanks for all the answers and discussion. I'm a bit disappointed about losing the unlock upon a reboot. On another note, will OS 4.3.2 be un-lockable using the Gevey?

Another option if you do not want to go with a USB player or worry about Audio out from a receiver or AV Processor is the NAD PP3i ($199). There are a few others out there, but they are creeping into the $500+ price range. I am looking at this unit for myself so I can plug my turntable into it, use a USB cable to connect to my Mac Mini and rip the albums with the NAD software ($25 extra). It helps with tagging the songs, removing clicks and pops, and exports to various audio files including ALAC, which is what I use.
Software RIAA equalization is available at no cost. There is arguments that it might be even more acurate then a real phono preamp, certainly cheaper.
If budget is unlimited then yes, buy everything. But if you have only $199 to spend. Buy a new photo cartridge or something that really will have a huge impact on the sound.
The way to ask this question is "given the gear I already own and my budget what new gear will give the best sound?" the answer is different for everyone. For most people the best use of funds is to spend monay as "close to the vinyl" as yuo can. Start with leaning equipment to remove dirt. That has biggest payoff, then look at in this order stylus, cartridge turntable and then the audio interface into the computer. It's is a one-way signal flow later stages can not un-do hard cause by early stages, so work from the vinyl then follow the signal down stream investing in upgrades i nthat order
So that preamp might be worth it if the gear upstream is up to the task or a total waste of money if the turn table and cartridge as junk. It all depends

I thought you could JB the iPhone and then use an app called MiFi (or somethinlg) and create a hot spot that the iPad (1st or 2nd Gen) could use.
I am losing my work provided cellphone and i was thinking about an iPhone for doing just that.
Correct, pay a one time fee of $20 or $25 for My-Wi on demand. My-Wi on demand automatically creates a wifi hotspot when necessary so you don't have to constantly have to switch on and off. By far one of the best reasons to jailbreak an iDevice.

I can't help you on the 2tb drives, but I do have a 1tb western digital green in mine.
From what I read, some drives need to be throttled to sata 1.5 in order to be recognized. This is done with a jumper on two of the pins next to the sata plug (which pins depends on the drive)
I believe I have my drive jumpered, and I think I had to reformat it once when I put it in because of the large block size.
At any rate, its in there, and it works.

Prior to this G5 I'd primarily used laptops for years. Particularly like the ALPowerbook keyboard for feel. Can't stand the normal Apple keyboards, or any normal ones really. Got the icekey maybe 1 month ago. I absolutely love it. And you don't have that issue...the only one...with the Powerbook when you are typing in Word, and go to hit the right shift key, hit the up button, and delete the last line or two...hate that...have to undo quickly. Not a problem with the bigger Icekey keyboard.
Lol, never encounterd that problem. This forum really helps me too, since I plan on buying a pmac G5, but i've used laptops all my life & want the small & sleek laptop keyboard feel.
Cheers,

Have to agree with others about the vaguely disturbing elements to the avatar. I'm glad you developed the avatar, if only so that you brought this singer to my attention, but there IS something unnerving about that apple and her eye.....

The Maxtor in my PM sounds like a hamster on a wheel compared to my nice, quiet Seagate.
Heh heh. Free pet sounds like value for money though. :-)
I'm looking at buying from ebuyer.co.uk and the user reviews on there for the WD and the Seagate both seem pretty good so I'll get one or the other.
Thanks for the input.

i think it's a great mac for anyone, starter or not!
example: I am habituated to my Dual G5, yet my 350MHz PMG4 is never a pain to use and is actually rather speedy at many things. I can only imagine what a faster G4 would be like

Sounds to me indeed similar to trying to capture an analog tape through a digital camera.
Is this the case?
If not, can you tell me your setup?
If it is, I'm afraid your only choice is to capture with iMovie - save everything else for FCX.
It's not all that inconvenient - exept you'll be importing non-intuitive clips names "Clip 01", "Clip 02", etc. You'll have to rename them in your browser to keep your sanity.

Here's a question that's been bugging me for a while. If you have a headless PC, does it need a video card in it?
The way I see it, it shouldn't because there's no monitor attached to it, but at the same time, VNC outputs what is on the monitor, which is driven by a video card. I've always wondered this, and I'm too lazy to pull the video card from my comp....
It most likely does. Your BIOS may keep you from booting the computer. If you have a really expensive graphics card, you can certainly downgrade. Newegg.com has many for under $20.
I wouldn't reccommend VNC if you have a 10/100 network because VNC causes high network traffic.

A simple solution to running a console app in the background would be to use GNU screen.
Install darwinports (make sure you update .profile to include $PATH:/opt/local/bin and stuff like that) and simply do `sudo port install screen', then
screen command-line-app
and simply close the window. if you want to check on it later, simply type in `screen -r'.
Ctrl-C while in the session to kill it. Useful for other things like irssi, compiling things in the background that will take a while, etc.
